Most gold in Egypt isn’t 24K. Here is what each karat holds, and how to read the stamp on it.
Karat measures gold content out of 24 parts, so 21K is 21 parts gold in 24. Gold sold in Egypt is stamped by the Egyptian Hallmarks and Weights Authority, and the number in the stamp is the fineness: how much of the piece is gold, in parts per thousand.

Why is 21K cheaper than 24K?
Karat measures purity. 24K is pure gold, while 21K is 87.5% gold mixed with other metals — so a gram of 21K holds less gold and costs less.
Does Goldady sell 21K gold?
No. Goldady’s investment gold and gold bars are 24K. The 21K price on this page is a market reference, because 21K is the karat many people in Egypt use to follow the gold price.
Does the price include a making charge (masna’eya)?
No. The price per gram does not include a making charge. Investment gold has no making charge at all. A physical bar adds one, which depends on the bar’s weight and maker and is shown on every bar before you buy.
Is investment gold cheaper than a gold bar?
For most amounts, yes. Investment gold has no making charge: you pay the 24K price per gram plus a commission of at most 1%, with VAT on the commission. A bar adds its own making charge, which on bars up to 100 grams is more than that commission. On the heaviest bars the two come close, so compare your quote with the bar’s itemised price. Holding investment gold costs 0.3% a year for vaulting and insurance, and you can sell it online at the sell price whenever the market is open.
Can I sell my gold bar back to Goldady?
Yes. Goldady buys back the gold bars it sells, as long as the bar is still in its original sealed cover. You are paid the live sell price shown on this page, with no buyback fee.
What is resale cashback on a gold bar?
Resale cashback is an amount Goldady pays you when you resell a gold bar back to Goldady, as long as the bar is still in its original sealed cover. It is not a discount on the purchase price, and it is not paid when you buy.
What does the change next to each price mean?
It is the difference between the current price and the closing price of the previous working day.
What happens to prices when the market is closed?
The prices stay at the session’s last figures until the market reopens. While it is closed, nothing can be bought or sold on Goldady — not investment gold and not gold bars. Both open again with the market.
What fees apply when I buy or sell investment gold?
A commission of at most 1% applies to each buy or sell — lower on larger amounts — with VAT on the commission. There is no making charge. Vaulting and insurance cost 0.3% a year of your gold’s value. Every cost is listed on the fees page.
